Terry Waite CBE visits Southwark

PEACE BREAKFAST

This is a report from the September Peace Breakfast organised by Southwark Council, with special guest Terry Waite CBE and a number of local Southwark people. The Tooley Street offices of Southwark Council was the venue for this memorable morning in September with speakers addressing the subject of peace and social disorder - Terry Waite CBE was guest of honour, with powerful contributions from Borough Commander Wayne Chance, local councillors El-Samerai and Mohamed, youth worker Yomi Sode, a Norwegian minister recalling the shocking shooting of so many young people on the idyllic Norwegian island this summer, Grace Idowu, whose son was the victim of a fatal knife crime attack in 2008.

This is a powerful poem written by Peckham youth worker about the issue of finding peace within oneself. Youth worker Yomi Sode, gave this final offering - and it struck a huge chord with all present.
