No more puddle-jumping |

We reported last month that Southwark Parks Department was at last taking action to remove the puddle blocking the gateway at the north-west corner of Camberwell Green. But, we wrote, "We won't be organising a victory party just yet. We don't know how many months the Council's contractors will need to drill a hole. Nor can we be sure that the hole won't get blocked with leaves after the next shower."
For once, our pessimism proved unjustified. A narrow grillel now extends across the gateway. As a result, even after heavy rain, you can walk to the Pensioners Centre via Camberwell Green without getting y ou feet wet or swinging on the gate.
Of course, this means that pensioners who welcomed a rainy day as an excuse for a bit of healthy gate-swinging now have to find other ways of keeping fit. Perhaps the Parks Department could open the Camberwell Green playground to the over-60s. That way, we'd get swings and roundabouts!
